PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is on track to achieve breakeven in 2023 as the demand for flights has returned strongly.
“We have already reached more than 50% of our pre-pandemic flight bookings and we will reach more than 70% by the end of this year.
“Our core signature routes like London and Australia are doing really well. So our flights are really full and we are also waiting for other borders to open in the region of North Asia,” said group chief marketing and customer experience officer Lau Yin May (pic).
On domestic travel, she said demand had picked up due to the opening of state borders. In terms of international travel, the airline’s kangaroo route – London, Malaysia and Australia as well as from India to Australia – is also experiencing busy traffic.
The national carrier is carrying out several initiatives including the launching of its new in-flight safety video.
“A safety video is very important. It is crucial for us to get the attention of our passengers so that they know what the safety steps are when they get onboard.
“If we do not deliver the information well, many of the passengers will not listen to it,” she said.
The airline had unveil its “Satu Dua Tiga, Jom!” safety video embodying the best of Malaysian culture, performing arts, and its signature Malaysian Hospitality slogan.
The airline has also collaborated with Malaysian artistes in the making of the video.
“We have just introduced our new direct flight to Doha, Qatar on May 25.
“We are also launching our new route to Haneda, Japan on Aug 14. We are looking for new flights to be added as we expand our network. All the flights will contribute to our revenue,” said Lau.
The MHflypass Malaysia which was set in motion on June 14, will enable passengers to plan up to three return trips in a year to any domestic destinations.
With Malaysia entering into the endemic phase, the travel industry is on its way to recovery, according to Lau.
